Bad news on the village shop I’m afraid. Despite the support from an overwhelming majority of the people who attended the open day at the Tredegar Arms (details here), Shirenewton Community Council (the owner of the Rec) has reversed its earlier decision to support the principle of a shop at the Rec. This, we believe, was largely due to a small but vocal element of the community who have deeply held views about the use of the Rec. The Community Council now ‘no longer wishes to pursue the option’. So the Rec proposal is dead in the water and we have had to forgo a funding opportunity worth some £390,000.

Unfortunately there has been a lot of misinformation in the community with respect to the proposals for use of the Rec. The facts are covered in this FAQ

Due to the decision by SCC, the current status is that, unless something changes, there is no realistic prospect of a village shop in the foreseeable future.
